Radiological and related services have been augmented by several "computer technology driven" diagnostic imaging tools, such as X-ray Computer Tomography, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and Digital Subtraction Radiography etc. With Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), these services will experience a further computer technology driven change in the management and archiving of images. More fundamental changes in the working profile of radiologists and related medical disciplines, however, will come with the introduction of graphic oriented Medical Work Stations (MWS). The user requirement space for such MWSs allows for the specification of a multitude of different types of work stations diagnostic, therapeutic and teaching purposes. The computer science disciplines applicable for the realisation of these work stations are briefly described. In particular, some examples of 3-D-computer graphic display techniques will be illustrated.
