Catheter embolism of the heart and vessels

Eighty cases of catheter embolism are reported. In 59 cases foreign bodies were visible and their removal was successful in 53 (89.9%) or patients. In 3 cases catheter emboli, undetectable either by radiographic of ultrasound techniques, were extracted. The operations were performed under roentgenologic and echocardiographic control, using loop-shaped and frame traps, specially designed catheters and other devices.
