Coronavirus-like isolates were obtained from pooled viscera in two separate outbreaks of visceral gout, urolithiasis and kidney swelling in pheasants in Hampshire in 1983 and 1984. Gross and histological lesions were similar to those reported in fowls infected with infectious bronchitis virus. Inoculation of SPF chicks produced no clinical signs, but passage in chick embryos resulted in stunting, clubbed down, and urate deposits in the kidneys.
