Natural and experimental poisoning of cattle with the young leaves of the shrub-like tree Thiloa glaucocarpa is reported and discussed, as well as experimental poisoning of cattle with the pods of Dimorphandra mollis and D. gardneriana trees. The subacute clinical course is similar in all three poisonings, and characterized by subcutaneous and internal oedema. At gross and histological examination a toxic tubular nephrosis is the typical finding, and in the case of T. glaucocarpa is generally accompanied by liver dystrophy. The latter plant species can cause considerable annual losses of cattle at the beginning of the rainy season in the "Caatinga" bush country, whereas the two Dimorphandra trees of the "Cerrado" regions appear to have little importance as poisonous plants for cattle.
