Cutaneous trunk reflexes indicated a lesion in the T14-15 region of the spinal cord. Radiography showed a shortening of vertebra 15, slightly increased but variable radiopacity, a trapezoidal shape of the vertebral body and a continuous curvilinear border to the dorsal arch. This and the clinical signs suggested a chronic, congenital osseous reaction (Hemivertebra) rather than a simple compression fracture. PM examination showed an old fracture with recent compression. There were 3 healed fractures to ribs 8, 9 and 10. Bone strength was normal and there was no bone disease. Histological examination provided evidence of demylination and acute myelomalacia.
