By means of atomic absorption spectrophotometry the iron level was determined in chorionic tissue in early pregnancy and in placental tissue in pregnancy at term and post term. Before the determinations the tissue was mineralized. It was found that the placental iron level in at term pregnancy was statistically significantly higher than in chorionic tissue from the first trimester of normal pregnancy. In the placenta from post term pregnancy despite degenerative changes, the iron level was similar to that at term.
