The experimental pattern used allowed us to induce constant biliary cirrhosis in a very short time (15-28 days) in the rat by ligating the extrahepatic biliary cirrhosis in a very short time (15-28 days) in the rat by ligating the extrahepatic biliary tract. The cirrhotic picture, which resulted more marked in male rats, has morphological aspects like secondary biliary cirrhosis in man.
