This paper reflects on the nature of the degenerative phase of the nutrition transition in India using a variety of data in addition to an ongoing study, the Prospective Urban Rural Epidemiology study. The article describes the dietary profile of and physical activity patterns in Indians, and discusses the emerging problems of obesity and non-communicable diseases in India.
