Utilization of health care delivery by tribal and non-tribal women of an ICDS block

The Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) was launched by the Indian government in 1975, to provide basic health care to expectant and lactating women from socio-economically deprived areas. A package of services comprising supplementary nutrition, ante-natal care, maternity assistance during labour, post-natal check-ups, health education and family planning services was instituted. This study evaluates the effectiveness of the scheme in the utilization of health care delivery by tribal and non-tribal women of the Kasdol block in the district of Raipur, Madhya Pradesh. The results were encouraging, and utilization of the services by pregnant and lactating women was found to be high. The I. C. D. S. was found to be very successful.
