Transthoracic aspiration biopsy in suspected lung cancer

Transthoracic aspiration biopsy whose summary effect was 63.6 per cent was performed in 107 patients with rounded formations in the lungs. The method is more effective when malignant tumors are identified (72.7 per cent) and less so when nontumorous processes (63.2 per cent) and benign tumors (25 per cent) are detected. The correct diagnosis was made in 51.7 per cent of cases with rounded formations in the parenchyma and in 70 per cent of cases with a peripheral localization. The method maybe used for the differential diagnosis in a suspected malignant tumor in the lung and its histological verification, when it is located in the parenchyma or in the peripheral parts of the lung and is more than 3 cm or more than 2 cm in size, respectively.
