Detection and determination of antioxidants in plastic materials with a polyolefin base

Several phenolic antioxidants are used in the synthesis and transformation, to isure the stability of polyolefins (high and low density polyethylene and polypropylene). European Pharmacopeaia orders that low density polyethylene for the manufacture of containers destined for parenteral and ophthalmic preparations, should contain no antioxidant. The present note describe for the detection of these antioxidants and especially of BHT by HPLC. The sensitivity, greater than of thin layer chromatography, the field of application and results are outlined.
