A review and discussion of semi-natural (Euphorbia, evergreen thickets, montane savanna) and artificial vegetation (field crops, Eucalyptus plantations) on soil erosion in the title area. The present efforts of the population for soil conservation are described and suggestions are made for the improvement of conservation structures in the field (stone bunds doubled with vegetation strips), cattle exclosures on steeper slopes to allow thicket regeneration, and agroforestry. It is concluded that in order to avoid linking the C-factor to the Vegetation Index (NDVI) which did not give satisfactory results for the area, the use of satellite images obtained in different seasons would allow more precise information of vegetation cover for the protection from erosion.
