Indirect estimation of demographic parameters of Bangladesh

The aim of the present study was to estimate the demographic parameters of Bangladesh using data from the 1961 census. Age-specific death rates and life expectancy at birth for both sexes were estimated using male and female life tables constructed by Widowhood method. Crude death rate for both sexes was estimated using age-specific death rates and smoothed age structure from the 1961 census. Crude birth rate for both sexes was also estimated from the balancing equation. The estimated population parameters were life expectancy at birth for both sexes (43.59), crude death rate for both sexes per thousand (21.61), growth rate for both sexes per thousand (21.2), and crude birth rate for both sexes per thousand (42.81). Age structure and age specific death rates for both sexes in Bangladesh during 1961 followed a modified negative exponential model and 4th degree polynomial model, respectively.
