In detection of cell mediated immunity function by LTT, EtRFT, EaRFT and PHA-skin tests in systemic lupus erythematosus, lowered T lymphocyte function was revealed. Among the tests, EaRFT and LTT were considered to be more reflective of cell mediated immunity. Humoral immunity showed elevatd IgG in 48% of the cases. Antinuclear antibodies were positive in 81.1% with an accumulated positive rate of 99.3%; antinuclear antibody titers above or equal to 1:80 were significant and occurred more frequently in active cases. The speckled type of fluorescent nuclear pattern was encountered most frequently. Peripheral, speckled-thready and homogeneous types were observed more in active cases. In patients with lupus nephritis and albuminuria, urinary antinuclear antibodies were positive in 41.7%. In lupus patients with involvement of the central nervous system, cerebral spinal fluid antinuclear antibodies were positive in 70%. Serum anti-dsDNA antibody determined by indirect hemagglutination was positive in 29.89%. The results basically were parallel to the isotope method. Positive patients had relatively shorter duration of illness and more involvement of the kidney. Circulatory immunocomplex determined by polyethylene glycol precipitation method was elevated in 43%. By dissociation test, the main immuno-complex contents were found to be nuclear antigen and antinuclear antibody complex. Blood CH50 and C3 were lowered.
