Neuroendocrine factors in determining the indications for vagotomy in patients with duodenal ulcer

Secretory and motor-evacuatory gastric function as well as the individual state of hormonal homeostasis, features of the correlation between the cholinergic and adrenergic regulation of the fundal glands and the degree of the insular apparatus impairment should be taken into accound in choosing indications to vagotomy. It has been established that pronounced sympathicoadrenal and corticoid reactions or hypoinsulinemia found in 34 per cent of patients with duodenal ulcer decrease the effect of vagotomy.
