Bolus obstruction of the intestine

Two cases are reported of gut obstruction, one caused by steamed dried peach halves eaten by a woman 56 years old who had undergone Billroth I gastrectomy 18 years previously, and the other by tinned peach halves swallowed whole by an edentulous man 75 years old. It was incumbent upon the surgeon to warn persons after gastrectomy, and upon the general medical practitioner to warn old and particularly edentulous persons against high-risk foods such as fresh citrus or dried fruit, and to chew any food carefully.
