The first part of the paper on methodology shows how it is advisable to extend the definitions, procedures and identification/evaluation criteria applicable to conventional hazards of sudden or accidental events to occupational hazards, too. For this purpose, the processing industry is taken as a reference, being a good example of industry in general. A general examination is made of the technical prevention and protection measures that can be taken as a result of application of "risk analysis", with a brief discussion of the respective limiting factors, that may be either technological, strategic or socio-economic. The second part of the paper concerning practical application gives examples of "specific cases" from two different industrial processes used for products with respectively low or medium-high added value.
