The UNESCO Man and Biosphere Programme (MAB), launched in 1971, is a worldwide programme of international scientific cooperation dealing with people-environment interactions in the whole range of bioclimatic and geographical situations of the biosphere. Africa contains 6 biosphere reserves in 30 countries. They form a network of cooperation for the exchange of scientific information on plant resources and their management and provide a basis for further research and training of conservation personnel.
