A standard survey questionnaire assessed actual dietary practices currently used in the treatment of patients having reactive hypoglycemia (RH) as described by hospital diet manuals. While the value of carbohydrate restriction is questionable, 83% of the 35 hospitals responding used a severely or moderately restricted carbohydrate diet to treat RH patients. Most hospitals adjusted the caloric intake to attain/maintain ideal body weight. Most made no recommendation concerning dietary fiber (14% recommended increasing dietary fiber). All respondents recommended the consumption of more than 3 meals/day by RH patients. (WZ)
