The incidence of neonatal pneumonia in urban and rural areas of Beijing

The incidence and predisposing factors of neonatal pneumonia were investigated in 19,571 newborn infants in two representative areas, East City District and Shunyi County of Beijing [China] in 1982. The results showed that the incidence in the two areas were 1.33% and 1.10%, respectively. The predisposing factors of pneumonia were preterm, postterm and low birth weight. Mode of delivery, type of feeding and cold weather were also factors related to the occurrence of neonatal pneumonia.
