The use of of talc through a thoracoscopy for achieving pleurodesis in 128 patients with pleural effusions of malignant etiology is discussed. The use of thoracoscopoy and talc as a simple, effective method with little morbidity for achieving pleurodesis is suggested. Performing a thoracoscopy as a diagnostic method and the provocation of the pleural symphysis during the same exploratory act, increases the cost-benefit ratio or the diagnostic method and of the hospitalization and offers a better quality of life to these patients.
