The evaluation of growth and development of 1000 children in six urban slums of Kanpur was done in the age group of 0-15 yrs. The growth standard was found to be lower than the standard laid down by ICMR. A high incidence of different grades of protein energy malnutrition (71%) was recorded. These findings are in agreement with those of other workers. Factors responsible for lower standard of health status are discussed.
