The American Horticultural Society and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization have launched a project to teach children from around the world about the science behind growing food plants. Ten schools from the U.S. and ten from the West African nation of Ghana will be the first schools to participate in The Growing Connection. The schools will be linked using state-of-the-art information technology so that children, scientists, and teachers will be able to communicate with each other. Participants in the project will use specialized kits to conduct experiments to determine how the growth of vegetable seeds is affected by solar radiation, cold temperatures, and differential gravity.
