A review of liquorice poisoning and its diagnosis and a brief review of medical use of liquorice and liquorice extract are presented. Liquorice poisoning may occur with 3 different clinical pictures which are dominated by hypertension, hypokaliaemic alkalosis, fluid retention or combinations of these.
