The influence of glucocorticoids on certain parameters of phosphorous-calcium metabolism has been studied in 140 patients suffering from bronchial asthma. Hypercalcemia and hypercalcinuria were observed in the patients who were given glucocorticoids at regular intervals or continuously. These conditions were attended with a low level of calcitonin and an unchanged blood content of parathormone. The therapy should be aimed at correction of calcium metabolism and prevention of steroid osteoporosis in bronchial asthma.
