Indirect haemagglutination tests on 308 individuals from Santiago Yosotiche (82% of the population) revealed antibodies to Trypanosoma cruzi in 78 (25%), including 21 aged < 20 years. Of the 78 seropositives, 21 (including 4 < 20 years old) showed electrocardiographic abnormalities suggestive of Chagas' disease. 4 of these patients were examined by xenodiagnosis and all were positive.
