Therapy of leukemia in rats using a conjugate of specific immunoglobulin and albumin-methotrexate

In order to increase the selectivity of the effect of a cytostatic on a tumor cell, a conjugate of albumin-methotrexate was prepared with specific Ig against antigens of the RT 11 complex which was present on the surface of cells of leukemia KPH-LwI (detected in the inbred LEW tribe). After inoculation of leukemia KPH-LwI the resultant conjugate was applied to the young of the inbred tribe LEW.1N (congenerous with LEW in the main histocompatibility complex RT 1). The survival span of animals treated by the specific Ig and albumin-methotrexate conjugate was compared with that of animals untreated, treated by methotrexate alone and those treated by a conjugate of nonspecific Ig and albumin-methotrexate. While methotrexate alone significantly prolonged the survival period of the young, the conjugate of specific Ig with albumin-methotrexate had no leukemostatic effect.
