Evaluation of the level of disadaptation of higher nervous activity using electropolygram analysis

Physically healthy men (218) and 18-22 were examined to evaluate the level of deadaptation, using EEG and parameters of cardiac rhythm and respiration. A relationship was established between these parameters of regulation of electrophysiological functions and the level of deadaptation of higher nervous activity (degree of severity of psychic disorders). Deviations in regulation and their degree of expression depended directly on the extent of the psychic disorder. General patterns were observed in the change of amplitude-frequency characteristics of the signals (EEG, cardiac rhythm and respiratory periodicity). The unidirectional shifts in slow and fast wave processes were the most marked. The common nature of the changes may indicate their central origin, i.e. their relationship to higher nervous activity.
