It has been shown that the mild, moderately severe and severe forms of dysentery are characterized by changes in the total content of peripheral blood monocytes and in their content of lysosomes and C3b receptors. The total number of monocytes depends on the manifestation of a pathological process in shigellosis. A high content of lysosomes in peripheral blood monocytes has been revealed in patients with severe forms of dysentery. It was suggested that reactivity of mononuclear phagocytes is disturbed in a protracted course of shigellosis.
