This report consists of 6 chapters that give an account of the many breeds of horses used in the USSR, some of which are illustrated in colour photographs, and 1 chapter describing the methods used in the production of horse mean and milk. In 1983, there were 5 6000 000 horses in the USSR, of which 75% were used for draught, transport and the production of meat and milk. Intensification of agriculture is increasing the demand for horses.
