Effect of antihypertensive pharmacotherapy on the rate of information processing

The maximum rate of information processing (MRIP) in the sensomotor communication canal by means of the Diagnosis-2 apparatus has been studied over time in 143 patients with essential hypertension and in 10 normal subjects. A single dose of reserpine (0.25 mg), dopegyt (250 mg), clofelin (0.15 mg) or anaprilin (40 mg) did not reduce MRIP during the 4 h of the examination. A course treatment with the above drugs and hypothiazide did not decrease MRIP on the 3rd and 6th day of treatment. Both in the acute experiment and course administration of antihypertensive drugs, the MRIP dynamics had no statistically significant difference from that of patients with essential hypertension who were given placebos. Thus, the antihypertensive drugs under study apparently do not produce a marked inhibiting effect on the complex sensomotor reactions that govern MRIP.
