This paper examines Pakistan's food security situation, and the effects structural adjustment has had on food security. There is a general consensus that food insecurity and poverty are twin problems that have emerged since the early 1990s in Pakistan. Successive governments were eloquent on their plans to eradicate hunger and poverty, yet, the problem persists and is even exacerbated. The period of structural adjustment has been accompanied by rising unemployment, a fall in real wages, and a drastic decrease in average household income, resulting to poverty and food insecurity. Food production and prices, nutrition interventions, wheat policy, and nutrition security, are also discussed to give an aggregate view of Pakistan's food security situation.
