Endoscopic study has recently become an inseparable part in the diagnosis of the causes of gastrointestinal hemorrhages. Attention has been drawn to a high incidence of the revealed acute ulceration of the gastric mucosa, which is the cause and consequence of blood loss. One of the features of gastric hemorrhages is their duration that affects the organism compensatory capacity. The lost blood should be made up with regard for the degree of blood loss which is determined according to the circulating blood volume (CBV) deficiency. Emergency operation is indicated in all cases with continuing hemorrhage and unstable hemostasis, the scope of operation being minimal.
