Luxation or dislocation of the caudal border of the nasal septal cartilage is found in 0.5-3% of all neonates. The condition is often overlooked and may when untreated lead to nasal stenosis, tendency to upper (and lower) respiratory tract infections and nose deformities in adults. Diagnosis and treatment with reposition of the septum is relatively easily accomplished, requiring a minimum of time and equipment. The authors emphasize the importance of knowing the condition and routinely examining all newborns accordingly is emphasized.
