Prevalence of equine toxoplasmosis evaluated by the indirect immunofluorescence technic, Matto Grosso do Sul, Brazil

The prevalence of equine toxoplasmosis has been studied for the first time in the state of Matto Grosso do Sul, Brazil. The study was conducted among 759 equines of indeterminated breed by the indirect immunofluorescence technique. The prevalence was found to be on the order of 32.8% (29.44 and 36.16 for a confidence limit of 95.0%). No statistically significant differences were found among prevalences by sex and age group. The most common antibody level was 1:64. This work warrants the conclusion that the endemicity of toxoplasmosis is high in the target population.
