Disseminated intravascular coagulopathy associated with thromboexclusion for a DeBakey IIIb dissecting aneurysm: a case report

A 57-year-old man with disseminated intravascular coagulopathy (DIC) after the surgical treatment of thromboexclusion for a type IIIb dissecting aneurysm has been reported. The patient noticed abnormal hemorrhage from his nick 5 months after the surgery. Laboratory data clarified DIC, and the treatment with heparin, gabexate mesilate and fresh frozen plasma released the symptom immediately. This is the first report of a case of DIC associated with thromboexclusion for dissecting aneurysm. The complication may occur recurrently after the surgery of thromboexclusion since this operation per se intends the formation of massive thrombus in the excluded area of the vessel.
