Motivation of preventive health attitudes: causal analysis of factors that determine attitudes as a premise for implementing a dental prevention program

Prevention in the area of dentistry depends on knowledge (e.g. causes, course and prognosis of cavities and periodontopathies), on attitutes (e.g. interest in prophylaxis) and on current hygienic behavior (e.g. oral hygiene, frequency of dentist visits). Based on a random sample of 91 patients of small children (1-5 yrs.-old) causal relationships between the above-mentioned factors were analyzed. Recommendations for the information and motivation of parents for optimal preventive hygienic behavior were drawn from the results.
