NlmCategory="UNASSIGNED">ABOUT TWICE a week Ann DoreyIrani would receive phone calls from distressed women whose birth experience had been so traumatic they wanted to make an official complaint. The calls were never easy for the head of midwifery services at London's Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Hospital (EGA). Some women wanted to know why they needed a Caesarean section. Others had issues with individual members of staff or the way they had been treated. Now these calls only come about once or twice a month.
