The annual variations of the diameter of the human pupil show a phase-shift of 180.degree. in moderate northern latitudes, in comparison with those in the Antarctic. Largest diameters are observed in connection with high altitudes, the smallest ones with low altitudes of the sun. An increase of the sympathetic tonus with rising altitude of sun is supposed. Interdiurnal phase-shifts of the Zeitgeber light between bright and dark days are discussed as 1 possible cause for meteropathological events.
