A cavity linear filled with teflon particles and an unfilled cavity linear were tested for their biological properties (i.e. protein of the pulp followed its use under composite fillings*) in cell cultures and animal experiments (Macaca fascicularis). No significant differences between the varnish and the linear could be established. However, the protection depended on the thickness of the remaining dentin layer and was only reliable in shallow cavities (dentin-enamel junction).
