Indication and results of esthetic surgery in the maxillofacial region

In the jaw- and facial region cosmetic surgery is of great significance because it can change the objective appearance and the subjective well being of the patients. But only the physician has to decide if an operation is indicated or not. Anomalies of the ear and nose and also the development of wrinkles in the skin of the face and the eyelids are often considered to be unaesthetic. These results of correcting operations at the Clinic of Maxillo-Facial Surgery in Leipzig [West Germany] are discussed. It was found out that pertinently carried out operations show a high rate of good results, nevertheless the primary aesthetic success after operations on the growing old skin changes for the worse again after some years.
