Use of slow-release sodium diclofenac in patients with rheumatoid arthritis

Twenty-five patients with rheumatoid arthritis were treated with a single daily dose of sodium diclofenac (100 mg tablets of slow-release diclofenac) for 4 weeks, alternating morning and evening ingestion of the drug for 2 weeks each according to a randomized scheme. Clinical parameters were evaluated at the start of treatment and after 2 and 4 weeks. Altogether, the drug was found to be effective, and patients took only small amounts of supplementary paracetamol. Among the different parameters evaluated, night pain, morning stiffness and handgrip strength were found to be influenced favorably and statistically significantly by evening assumption of slow-release diclofenac.
