On circumstantial evidence, botulism was diagnosed as the cause of ataxia and death in cattle grazing stubble on which spent litter containing decomposing broiler carcasses had been spread 2 weeks previously. When another group of cattle was allowed onto the stubble 24 days after the first group had been introduced, further cases occurred. In both groups, clinical signs appeared 10 days after introduction.
