Protection factors and risks associated with alcohol use in adolescents with alcohol-addicted parents in Peru

The Drug Use Screening Inventory was used to collect data and to categorize substance abuse indices with respect to physical, working and family conditions, peer relations, and relationships with teachers. Adolescents between 12 and 18 years of age whose parents were addicted to alcohol reported alcohol intake (in some cases, to the point of intoxication), but without a frequent pattern of intake. Among adolescents, the risks and protective factors with respect with alcohol abuse were associated with the behaviour of family members and friends, as well as with the social situation the adolescent is in.
