Three major approaches to understanding rumination (food regurgitation) and its treatment are reviewed and illustrated, viz., the organic, the psychodynamic, and the behavioral approaches. It is argued that the most useful strategy is to integrate these 3 approaches into a more holistic approach. The integrated approach is illustrated with 2 case studies, each involving a young infant.
