Malignant thyroid neoplasms in children

From 1962-1983, 65 children were treated for thyroid tumors, including 13 with malignant neoplasms. The diagnosis and treatment of malignant thyroid tumors are discussed. The main therapeutic method was surgery. In 2 cases chemotherapy was given and in case, radiotherapy was also used. In 2 children with papillary carcinoma with pulmonary metastases, radioactive 131I was given. Two of these 13 children died, 11 are doing well and are without evidence of malignant tumor. The follow-up observation was from 1-10 yr.
