Wuchereria bancrofti microfilarial ES antigen was used in an inhibition ELISA on 67 human sera. 15 of 20 microfilaraemic, 7 of 20 clinical filariasis, 4 of 20 endemic normals and none of 7 non-endemic sera gave a positive reaction (titre of 1:300). In 10 microfilaraemic patients given diethylcarbamazine (total dose of 72 mg/kg body weight in 12 equal weekly doses) there was an initial increase in antigen titres which reached a peak at about the 4th week. Titres then fell gradually and by the 13th week all the patients were amicrofilaraemic.
