A series of 20 coloured photographs, with captions, illustrates the procedure from making the site of pulsation of the artery to the final sutured incision after withdrawal of the catheter. One of the four silk ties passed round the vessel is tied to prevent collateral blood flow and the others are used to manipulate the catheter in the incised artery, then tied to hold it in position, their ends being left protruding through the skin to allow withdrawal of the catheter. A catheter, filled with heparinized saline, with its end cut an angle of 30 degrees -45 degrees and its point blunted, was used.
