The clinical stage, diagnostic methods and treatment in 60 patients harboring hypernephromas, seen at the Urologic service of Paula Jaraquemada Hospital [Chile] during 4.5 yr (1979-1983) are analyzed. The usefulness of preoperative embolization and radical nephrectomy through the anterior thoraco-abdominal approach, as technique of choice, is emphasized. Both techniques improve the postoperative survival and allow the removal of practically 100% of the tumors, even those considered as unoperable.
