The first effective steps taken towards consolidation of holdings in the state were in 1953. Up to 1960 the programme had covered 22,900 villages and included 10,132 million ha. of land. According to estimates consolidation will finally be completed in the plains district by 1973-74. The techniques of land consolidation are discussed in detail in relation to village planning.
